This Saturday 16th of December a benefit is being organized in
Rampart Creative Social Centre in support of the people of Oaxaca
who have organized themselves as the “APPO” Popular Assembly of
the People of Oaxaca.
The APPO was formed by more than 300 social organisations that
unified after a major teachers strike was violently suppressed by
the governor of Oaxaca City Ulises Ruiz Ortiz. It started
formally between the dates of 17th and 21st of June 2006
During the 6 months of their struggle the APPO have controlled
radio stations, tv stations, universities and other public
buildings.
In the last months the repression has been very violent and the
government won’t stop until it has completely destroyed any sign
of resistance by the people of Oaxaca.
The people of Oaxaca need our support. We will be fundraising for
money and publicising their struggle
£5 suggested donation but any other kind of help
such as donated old laptops, digital cameras etc. are also
welcome.
(Thanks to Jeff from whom I’ve nicked the photo. Read his blog at http://expeditionmexico.blogspot.com/ to see how scary it was.)
