There was a planning meeting for the Campaign against Climate Change (CACC) Trade Union conference on Climate Change in Birmingham last weekend. I wasn’t at it but I know some people who were and this is a very brief summary of what happened and what is planned.
The event is to be called the “Campaign against Climate Change Trade Union Conference”. The organisers seek to deepen the process of discussion already ongoing in the unions and to work closely with the current leadership of CACC.
The political basis of the conference is the need to overcome the suspicion between the environmental movement and unions. It was noted that there are differences within the unions on the environment – for example on aviation; alternative plans for production are needed.
The one day conference will be in London on February 9th 2008. Details of the workshops and plenary sessions are being worked on. Initial publicity will be available for the Hazards at Work conference on 28/07/07 in Manchester. This will include a sign up sheet, a brief intro on rationale for conference and outline suggestions for workshops.
