Gunner This might sound a bit prejudiced but watching Harry Windsor talking about his service in Afghanistan you had to be struck by just how thick and unreflective he seemed. There barely seemed to be an idea filling the space between his ears other than the typical platitudes of the soldier justifying industrialised murder. Here is a young man most of us would be wary of leaving in charge of the peanuts at a sixth form disco. The British Army allows him to blast into the Afghan countryside with a heavy machine gun at the people he calls “Terry Taliban” and call down air strikes on Afghan villages while having no idea at all who is in the houses.

It’s not all his fault. He has not been genetically blessed having inherited both his mother’s looks and intellect. Nature has given us a throwback to the medieval baron who devoted himself to war, plunder and recreational activities like jousting that were training for war. Those warriors were mostly drunken, illiterate and boorish too.  His passion for going into someone else’s country to kill the harry nazipeople who live there was tangible and he wasn’t squeamish about using twenty first century technology to destroy homes made out of mud bricks. The British Army is jam packed with well trained psychopaths of the same type.

New Labour now has a poster boy for its war in Afghanistan, one who made flesh its imperialist racist contempt for that country’s inhabitants as he pounded away on his machine gun. Harry is the unreconstructed murdering imperialist wannabe and maybe that’s why Gordon Brown had such nice things to say about him.

It’s not genetic though is it? It’s the cultural conditioning of beign brought up as a royal- nothing to do with nature.

You’re right it is disgusting. But I don’t think his background is much of a mitigating factor.

He’s an adult and he should be tried along with the generals for war crimes.

Probably not going to happen anytime soon though I’m afraid.

  2. At least though your healthy does of anti-royal republicanism is better than Galloway’s misplaced comment in an otherwise good response to the Question Time point where he said it was ‘admirable’ that he had gone.

Just because it is disgusting hypocrisy for the Labour war cabinet to send working class soldiers to murder working class and small farmers in Afghanistan doesn’t make it ‘admirable’ for the head of state’s grandson to take part in organised murder.

All the soldiers should be withdrawn immediately.

Thanks Liam. You put into words what many on the left were thinking. I only wish I had written it myself.
From the Nazi dressing ‘party swinger’ to ‘hero’ all in one go. Never has the media with one or two honourable exceptions been so willingly used to justify a dishonourable lost war. Its just like the Falklands wth the media and the PM wrapping themselves up in the Union Jack but this time its an endless unwinnable war – our Vietnam!
    How many more must die?

  4. But perhaps more significant is the whole media circus surrounding his 10-week stint blasting “terry taliban” – this was a stunning coup for the Royals. Their weakest link, the ginger nazi, becomes a Sun pin-up in one easy go.
As for the officer class, the Brit Army needs its knuckle dragging squaddies to do the dirty business but the real thickos are the officers. From my limited time in their company, they are public school educated to a man, they exude the casual racism and elitism of their class and rank and yet are as stupid as a lump of coal.
    I’m surprised more don’t get fragged…

  5. Funny that no-one has yet commented (as far as I know) on Barack Obama’s support for the US/Nato presence in Afganistan.
That could bite him in the arse come the US pres election, if it gets worse for them.
As for Harry, GG has pilloried him in the past for being a drunken lout who gets away with it for being Royal.
And in being in charge of direction airstrikes that eliminate Taliban ‘bunkers’, no mention is made of the innocents killed and maimed.
About as far from being ‘admirable’ as you can imagine.
But then GG has some odd nuances ( his soft spot for the unrepentant stalinist from Plaistow being one), so maybe this should be taken with salt.

  6. In any other public sector job this man would have been suspended immediately and sacked a few days later if video evidence were produced of him calling someone “Paki” or “raghead”.
