This is more of an information piece than a political endorsement but it will be interesting to see how the impressively militant action outside the Houses of Parliament translates into votes. image

Jan Janayagam is running to become a Member of the European Parliament. According to her website her family were granted leave to remain in England as refugees from the armed conflict in Sri Lanka, while Jan herself was granted a work visa in 1989 as a professional expert in her field. For the last year she has been UK spokesperson for Tamils Against Genocide an advocacy group that seeks to obtain convictions for genocide against high-ranking Sri Lankan officials and the state. This seems like a useful way for anyone to spend their time.

The union jack does not add a great deal to the layout of her website and we can assume that anyone who is doing something quite important inItaly’s second largest banking group for a job is not likely to be arguing for class struggle politics anytime soon. However the Tamil community in London is large, very well organised and concentrated in low paid sectors of the economy . Just the sort of people to whom we need to be offering our solidarity.
