image In a desperate attempt to fit into the mainstream of modern political discourse I thought it would be a good idea to have a quick survey of readers’ opinions on where to wield the axe on public spending. The Economist this week has a brainstorming piece on what cuts the next government can make and I’ve added some suggestions to their list. You can contribute your own as well. The plan is to get the four most popular choices into the election manifesto of whatever left formation enters the electoral lists next year.

  2. I’ve voted for military spending because it would save a reasonable amount of money and would move us towards a Scandinavian or Japanese type economy which, it seems to me, is the nearest we can get to equality short of world revolution. I don’t believe socialism in one country is possible.

Then I voted for abolishing the monarchy and ending tax priviledges for Public Schools because we have to de-commission the English ruling classes which are now a genuinie and wholly unnecessary fetter on the happiness and progress of English society, imho.
