image This comes from the Morning Star. Unless you’re one of his relatives you might not recognise the chap in the photo. He’s the leader of the British working class. His name is Brendan Barber, General Secretary of the TUC.

Rail union RMT will call for an emergency meeting of the TUC to plan industrial and political action against expected public-sector cuts.

The union’s general secretary Bob Crow warned that the coalition government was plotting to target public-sector pay, jobs and pensions as part of the Tory “cuts budget” announced on Tuesday.

His response followed an interview with Prime Minister David Cameron who said that it was “fair” that public-sector workers should face a pay and pensions squeeze in the emergency Budget.

Mr Cameron described pay and pensions, along with welfare benefits, as three major areas of spending “that you can’t ignore” in trying to clean up the nation’s £155 billion deficit.

However, the PM claimed that there was no agenda against public-sector workers.

Mr Crow said: “It could not be clearer that the Con-Dem administration is setting out to drive down pay, working conditions and pensions.

“When someone’s winding up to give you a kicking, you have a clear choice – you can either take them on right from the off or you can roll over and hope that they go away.

“Mr Cameron has launched a full-frontal assault on the trade union movement on a scale which is unprecedented since Margaret Thatcher’s government set out to smash the National Union of Mineworkers.”

He said the RMT is calling on the trade union movement to start retaliating before Mr Cameron and Mr Clegg have a chance to pull their boots on.

“This is not the time for talking, it’s the time for action,” Mr Crow added.
