Here are some photos of a little bit of anti-cuts campaigning in Whitechapel before the heavens opened this afternoon. A thing that struck a couple of us was how reluctant the young and beautiful hipsters were to even take a leaflet, never mind sign a petition. Notwithstanding that lots of people did stop to talk and loads were willing to brandish a whiteboard with a suitably angry message. The young women in the photos were a bit more clued up than the more self consciously trendy and had a very clear understanding of the horrors that the university tuition “reforms” signify.

Most of us usually cringe on hearing the phrase “people are angry”. Today you had a sense that some are starting to get that way and that it won’t be long before lots more are.

My hunch is that the march from Lincoln’s Inn Field and the 6pm protest outside Downing Street are likely to be pretty big.
