  1. A working class hero is Julian Assange.

Surprised there doesn’t seem to be any upfront defence of him on any of the left blogs.

Or have the left capitulated to the CIA-rad-fem agenda and decided to take a dive on this one?

After the way parts of the left capitulated to the Murdoch agenda over Sheridan, its hardly suprising many are taking a dive over this as well.

Why link the two? Sheridan’s getting a fair trial as far as I can see and is well resourced and it is hardly suprising given he is such a divisive figure that some couldn’t care less which way the verdict goes as long as it is just and seen to be just. The Assange case however is clearly different. The extradition claim is bogus as there is no way anybody would be charged in this country without evidence and I’m sure that would normally be the case in Sweden. The normal rules appear to have been suspended for Assange.

Odd that you post this claim about the `left’ at exactly the moment when there is a defence of Assange taking place on Socialist Unity which even Newman is participating in and he was against the Leaks.

  3. Fair enough in a way, I have commented on SU in defence of Assange. But Andy N is a bit of an erratic, maverick figure – I was making the point about the organised left blogs. Not much there about this that I can see.

My point is rather about something that has also proved quite potent in the Sheridan case. The common denominator between the two cases is that sexual allegations are being used to try to isolate both Assange and Sheridan from ‘progressive’ and left opinion.

There are class issues at stake in the defence of both Assange and Sheridan in my view and in both cases reactionary ‘left’-talking radical-feminists are involved. SR is one part of the left that is susceptible to their blandishments, which is why this is a very important issue to raise here in my view.

  5. Its incredible to think Lennon was only 40 when he was gunned down.

Alongside Marley and Strummer with those three on our side the romantic in me suggests theres just a chance the world would be a better place if they were still with us.

  6. I think the world is a better place because of people like Lennon, Marley, Strummer, Stevens etc. Though Simon Cowell is doing his best counter all that.

I guess in a rational world Assange would be hailed a hero and Cowell would be taken out to a deserted farmhouse where he would be shat on by all the animals and forced to eat it. Then he would be stripped naked and have various farmyard implements shoved inside him before being set on fire and dumped into the septic tank.
