Care4Calais has had to quit its Bristol storage space after a recent attack on the premises. You can see from the photo that whoever was responsible took a lot of trouble to do as much damage as possible. The facility has been attacked several times. It is apparent that only racists would repeatedly commit attacks like this against an organisation dedicated to supporting migrants and asylum seekers. Farage, Badenoch, Robinson and several British newspapers have legitimised physical attacks like this by their verbal attacks on the people Care4Calais was set up to help. Shabana Mahmood has done her bit to help as well on Labour’s behalf.

In just the same way the attack on a Jewish charity’s ambulances is antisemitic, this attack is racist. However, as far as I can tell, if you are not on the Care4Calais mailing list you won’t have heard about it.

Contrast this to what happened way back in 2016 when Angela Eagle’s constituency office window was a major news story for days. You probably haven’t had any reason to think about Eagle in the intervening years. She was a bit player in the anti-Corbyn campaign and her vocal support for Labour Friends of Israel was taken as proof that deranged Corbynista antisemites were out to get her.

It turned out that the story, which got a lot of press attention at the time, was bollocks. The brick was thrown through a communal window in the building in which she rented an office. On the basis of no evidence whatsoever it was deduced that only a Corbynista would do such a thing.

An obviously racist attack on an anti-racist charity should be a reasonably significant story. Even if the organisation didn’t push it in the press, it certainly merits attention and it is indicative of the political climate that it has passed unremarked.

Quite a lot of damage was done to things belonging to an organisation which relies almost exclusively on donations and volunteers. If you want to send a couple of quid to help out you can do so here.
