Damn! My carefully rehearsed rant about the folly of using International Women’s Day to discuss a religious perspective on women’s rights went unheard. Five people were there when I arrived and a few turned up later. Heavy rain and a 4.30 start are often a disincentive when you are organising a meeting and this was the case here too. I was relieved to find out that my opinion was a majority one. It occasionally happens.
At 7.30 there was a meeting of Keep Our NHS public at which Frank Dobson was the headline speaker. Even old Labour sounds breathtakingly radical these days and he was well received. This meeting was smaller than the previous one and had fewer NHS staff. I wasn’t involved in the organisation of the event and can’t explain why.
I’d been given a three ton rucksack of material for a Respect stall. However the available spaces and tables and been claimed by Bookmarks and a SWP stall so the rucksack went unopened. Priorities, eh?
