This is a very short report for the forthcoming issue of the paper.

Supporters of Socialist Resistance met in London this month for their fourth annual conference. The day began with a discussion of the international political situation. We agreed that our campaigning and educational priorities for the coming year will be activity in the anti-war movement, solidarising with the struggle of the Palestinian people and developing support for the revolutionary processes in Latin America.

Respect will continue to be central to our work in England. In Scotland Socialist Resistance gives its support to the United Left and the Scottish Socialist Party. Donny Nicholson, addressing the conference on behalf of the United Left said; “We have been attacked and slandered from all sides. It has been important for us to know that we had the political support of the comrades of Socialist Resistance in England.”

The conference agreed to begin a major programme of activity on climate change. As part of this we will be hosting a day school on the topic on December 2nd.

Caroline Pulford who joined Socialist Resistance after attending the Fourth International Youth Camp commented, “it was a really informative day and I’m looking forward to getting involved in Socialist Resistance’s youth committee.”

Andy Newman of the Socialist Unity Network remarked “the working class of Swindon marches behind the banner of Socialist Resistance.” We are pleased to hear it.

Hmmm – well I think you should have at least mentioned that we had an informative and important debate on Respect. You come close to disregarding it altogether.

Actually what i thought was remarkable about the Resppect debate is that apart from Alan’s participation on the exec, there was very little evidence fro the comrades’ contributions that respect really is central to you practical politicall activity.And how could it be, given that in most of the country Respect has no functioning structures for you to participate in.If i had to make a criticsm it would be that your perspective is actually unworkable becasue the SWP won’t allow it to work, and that leads to a certain paralysis.The debate on respect was important because it revelaled to me no eveidence, other than wishful thinking on your part, that particpiation in respect does anything to move forward a broad party project.
