It seems that Respect has taken to phone canvassing former members asking them to re-join. Here is a short conversation TWP http://unknownconscience.blogspot.com/ had as told to me in the pub last night.

-Hello I’m calling from the RESPECT office. We’d like to ask you to re-join.
– I sent you an e mail last year saying that I left when I saw George Galloway on Big Brother.
– Everyone makes mistakes and he is better than Bush and Blair. (TWP who worked in telephone marketing is confident he had a script.)
– I also think that your organisation is really undemocratic. I went to some meetings and there wasn’t much tolerance for opposing points of view.

That ended the conversation. It’s strong evidence too that the dogma of Georgian infallibility has been revised. Needless to say the killer argument “Galloway is better than Bush and Blair” has got her back on the threshold of re-joining.

    Wow! What a sell! Just think this script was probably drafted and re-drafted more times than you can imagine. Well, at least he’s “better than Bush and Blair”.. Incidentally, I was rung up once (once was enough for the guy on the end of the phone) to join Respect. I kinda ranted at him and that kinda flummoxed him as it probably wasn’t in the script and he became silence though at one point he laughed nervously. He asked whether he should come around to visit me and persuade me to change my mind. I said, “No, it wouldn’t do either of us any good..”

    I’d be interested to learn whether these are paid canvassers or not.Either way phone canvassing is a v bad idea IMHO

    Perhaps they should have a recruitment drive outside cinemas showing “last King of Scotland” – “Join Respect, Galloway is better that Idi Amin.”
