This is the last of the recent outbreak of gig reviews. I’ll let the music do the explaining. I love these songs and will probably die with one of them on my MP3 player as I walk obliviously into the path of a wanker in a four wheel drive. The only problem with the concert was that Ash fans are on average about two feet taller than me and the venue didn’t compensate with an appropriately angled floor so I didn’t see as much as I would have liked.

Last night was the first time I’d seen the band since Charlotte Hatherley’s departure and the additional guitar was missed on those songs that need the fancy solos. The sound on the video of Angel Interceptor isn’t great but you may just hear how Tim Wheeler struggles a bit with singing the high notes. Though the essential point about Ash is that they do this angry, energetic pop better than anyone since the Buzzcocks and there is no higher praise in my musical vocabulary.

  1. Hey, Liam — I am so enjoying your concert review series. It’s funny, as all the one-word named bands you tried to expose me to ten years ago are finally part of my music collection… Pulp, Suede, etc. No Oasis or Blur yet, but I suppose it’s possible Mark has those to load into my computer as well.Anyway — are you going to get a free LJ, pretty please?
