Smokers, or to use the proper scientific term, dirty smoker leper bastards, in France are about to suffer a major setback. From January 2nd they will have to indulge their filthy vice without the company of decent people. It will be illegal to smoke in bars, restaurants and other public places. The law also applies to the silly little rat dogs that Parisians bring into restaurants with them. They are no longer allowed to smoke either.

Hurrah! another small step up the mountain of civilisation.

The transformation was miraculous. There were no riots. Everyone just seemed to accept that it’s a positive thing. Overnight the smoke cleared from the bars and restaurants and it was all like a bad dream had ended.

  1. People with a drug addiction are “dirty smoker leper bastards?” Wonderful set of priorities, Liam. I support a smoking ban, in France as elsewhere. But how can any socialist describe this as even a small step towards civilisation? When we cast a glance at Pakistan, Palestine, Iraq… Is this not fiddling while the planet boils?

  2. Tom no heroin addict has ever accidentally injected me and no crack user has ever made me inhale the stuff.I don’t mind those sorts of drug addicts unless they burgle my house or nick my bike. Smokers on the other hand feel entitled to suffocate me when I’m in restaurants and I resent that hugely.

By the way, an absolutely literal reading of this site can often be a barrier to understanding. A lot of people have picked up on that.

  3. I am amazed but pleased by this news, somewhat surprised to get good vegetarian food in Paris on my last visit as well….I get people reading my blog phrases literally as well, very annoying but not as dangerous as the passive drug assault.

happy ecosocialist new year from Dr Wall!

Portugal also banned smoking in restaurants etc on 1 January. Which probably explains why so many people were smoking in them over the Xmas period.
