We said goodbye to Greg Tucker yesterday. The funeral and celebration of his life was attended by RMT members from all over the country, comrades we haven’t seen in a long time and socialists from a range of organisations.

Some videos can be seen at the emerging new Socialist Resistance website. If anyone has photos they would like to share please send them to me.

Thanks to Terry for this one.

Some of the floral tributes for Greg

  1. Well done comrades on a wonderful service. It was truly inspiring to hear all of the amazing tributes to Greg from RMT members and political activists from across the country. It was also a useful reminder that no matter how rubbish things may get sometimes on the left, that the hard work of carrying the flame of socialism does make a difference in the lives of workers and makes one’s life very much worthwhile. Viva Greg Tucker!

PS – The website looks great! I am sure Greg would be proud!
PPS – Liam I sent over a few photos for your use

  2. Liam/Terry et al,

A combination of what I have written elsewhere.

I knew Greg quite well for about ten years then had slightly fewer conncetions with him. I remember his activities in the IMG/SL/ISG and in the trade unions and the Labour Party in Lambeth, where I was also active.

Greg was a great guy as I have said before on other blogs and although we were politically separated many years ago, 1991, I still owe Greg a debt of gratitude to recruiting me to the SL in 1983, for introducing me to many people I still consider friends even though our paths have diverged considerably. Many of whom were at his funeral yesterday.

Greg’s funeral and wake were-I thought- quite a wonderful and fitting tribute and acknowledgement of what the life of a revolutionary socialist should actually be about.

There was a magnificent turnout at both with memories and speeches from Greg’s friends and comrades

For me it was like a walk down memory lane: meeting former members of the South London IMG/SL/ISG. There were former Labour councillors from the heady days of the eighties. Some of these people I have not seen in fifteen years or more. Utterly amazing.

There were great memories from Joan and from Anna Tapsell and from Alan Thornett and others too numerous to mention

I sadly had to leave just as Charli was speaking to pick up eleven month old Danny, so I missed whatever came about in the rest of the evening as I left at 4.30. In my view what we all need to take from yesterday is that the struggle goes on and if we can all do just a little of what Greg did the world will be a much better place for all working people.

    Mike

    PS

With beers and orange juices we salute the memory of Greg!
