The next in the series of introductions from the Socialist Resistance dayschool is this contribution from Andrej Hunko who looks at the experience of the Left Party in Germany.

One response to “Die Linke”

  1. the general problem is, that it seems, that like in the 1980ies with the German Greens, members of a marxist/socialist/communist/etc. background will get lost in “Die Linke” or will leave them after some years full of frustration, … another problem is, that the party is very much orientated towards working in parliaments and institutions and is less keen to engage in extra-parliamentary struggle … the comrade also does not address the problems with populist/nationalistic tendencies among the leadership of “Die Linke”, especially with some of Oskar Lafontaine’s speeches in the past (in 1992/3, it was Lafontaine, who was the driving force inside the SPD to join with the rightwing government to change the constitutional article on asylum rights, he never apologized for this!) … there is also number of revolutionaries and activists, who prefer to stay outside the party and and to do grassroots work instead of wasting time in local parliaments and intra-party conflicts

on the other hand, last weekend, 221 bus drivers in Lafontaine’s home region (Saarland) joined the party en bloc
