The first item is from Richard in Manchester and the second is from a Facebook page showing what a group of people in Tyrone are doing.

On a much more modest scale I’m helping organise a jumble sale in this part of the world on Saturday and if anyone wants to help or donate please get in touch via e mail.

Be there to send it off

Come and send off the Manchester contingent of the Viva Palestina Aid Convoy to Gaza

The convoy will be forming up in the streets around Saffron Restaurant (107 Cheetham Hill Rd) during the afternoon after Friday prayers.  It will be joined by other vehicles from across the North West

The Viva Palestina convoy, lead by a Fire Engine, all flying Palestian flags, will then travel along Cheetham Hill Rd, through Manchester city centre, along Oxford Rd, Wilmslow Rd, joining Princess Parkway at Fallowfield.

The Manchester contingent will then form up with the others from across the UK in central London the following morning and depart for the ferry to Europe.

More information be found on the Manchester pages of the Vivapalestina.org website

The Phil Kaiserman Column

In celebration and as a mark of respect for history and traditions of Cheetham Hill’s Jewish radicals and communists, who campaigned for solidarity for the republican cause during the Spanish Civil War in the 1930s.  The Manchester convoy contingent is named the Phil Kaiserman Column.

One response to “To Gaza from Manchester and Tyrone”

  1. Good to see. Tyrone socialist Patricia Campbell (recently of Be;fast but always of Tyrone) was in Gaza a month to two before the war helping to participate in a community mental health conference at a local health center. Israeli destroyed it in the war. Her report of her visit and the subsequent destruction as well as how to help is on Susan Rosenthal’s site http://susanrosenthal.com/general/israel-bombs-health-service-in-gaza

Nothing analogous is happening here though even my podunk university has just launched a new student group called Intifada! (there Arab community is hundred’s of thousands strong in Michigan) which is an indication of something.
