image Irish homophobia has been rather eclipsed by the sound and fury about everyone else’s. It’s only right on the day Irish people all round the globe feel a patriotic obligation to drink themselves senseless that the  country’s world beating historical record in this department is reasserted. Not just that, it’s been exported all over the world.

Gerry “I am against exclusion, I am for inclusivity” Adams will be attending the Boston parade which also bans openly LGBT participants.

This comes from Pink News.

image A gay rights group in New York will protest at the traditional St Patrick’s Day Parade today.

The group, Irish Queers, plans to disrupt the parade, which excludes members of the LGBT community on the grounds that it is a religious event.

“We’re sick of hearing city officials say they can’t intercede in the homophobia because it’s a religious march,” said Tierney Gleason of Irish Queers.

“If it’s a religious anti-gay parade, and uniformed cops and firefighters have to be pulled out.

“It can’t be both privately religious and publicly Irish.”

Today’s St Patrick’s Day parade will be the 247th in the New York’s history.

The parade is organised by the Ancient Order of Hibernians, an Irish-Catholic fraternal organisation. In 1991 it was legally redefined by the NYC Parade Committee, meaning that organisers could ban gay groups.

The parade is one of the largest St. Patrick’s Day events in the world. In 2006 more than 150,000 marchers took part in the procession and around 2 million spectators watched on from the streets.

Christine Quinn, the openly gay New York City Council speaker, last year boycotted the event in favour of Dublin’s St. Patrick’s Day.

She tried, unsuccessfully, to broker a deal with the organisers to allow gay and lesbian participation. Quinn, a potential candidate for the Mayor of New York City in 2009, is still hopeful that LGBT Irish-Americans will one day march.

  5. Eileen Calder of the Belfast Rape Crisis Centre has posted the following comment on the Slugger O’Toole site – it is hard to disagree with the general political line, although the tone is a little rough towards the end of the piece (a forgivable mistake) “The Ancient Order Of Hibernians have an absolute right to decide which banners and badges it will permit at its St Paddy’s Day Parades in Boston and New York.

If they wish to EXCLUDE Gay banners on the basis of religious beliefs they are required by United States legislation TO PAY FOR the extra policing etc required at such RELIGIOUS events. They don’t do this. The rate-payers of the Cities involves do.

Either it is a PUBLIC and secular event at which all should be welcome, deserving of city funding or it is a sectarian event at which these ridiculous “Irish”-Americans are portraying our country as a nation of backward, bigoted, sexist, homophobic, corn-beef and cabbage eating, morons, for which the AOH should foot the bill itself.

Gerry Adams attendance at one of these parades is almost as offensive as the Trimble and Paisley Garvaghy Road Jig. Why can’t our politicians stay at home on St Pat’s Day? of (all days)- too much junketing and not enough work done. Are they afraid of the reception they might get on the streets of Belfast or Dublin? Top Of The Morning to all you “Irish”-Americans out there.”

Although I am not homophobic I feel that LGB groups have no place at all in our parades-St.Patrick’s Day is primarily a Catholic feast day not a cultural or patriotic display although it does have those overtones as we all know.It is not a Gay pride march and I would not feel it appropiate that a group priding themselves on their heterosexuality be allowed to march either….if gays can participate in our parades as a separate group then why not have a ‘we hate Gays’ group in the parade?Or maybe even a wee group or two espousing their opposition to Western Imperialism or how some folk are not too keen on Israeli war crimes…….the list is endless and the line needs to be drawn somewhere. The bottom line is our St.Patrick’s Day parades across the world are organised primarily by Irish Catholics and we make up the majority of the folk who watch & participate in them and if people wherever do not like our parades then do not go to them,do not watch them and do not try to participate in them.We pay enough taxes to warrant government support of them & if folk do not like it they can lump it.And the first politician to meddle in this will see their career disappear as the many voters like me will send them packing at the ballot box.Gays are entitled to their marches and so are we.

  7. I completley agree with Emmett O’ Reilly. All these sickos need to f**K off and stay away from St. Patricks day parades, they dont have any right to use a Christian, more specifically a catholic tradition to show off their sick lifestyles, they have their own parade, why dont they stick to it? They just want to pervert everyone and everything, now a long standing Irish tradition is under attack by these sickos, im sick to death of all this LGBT RUBBISH. They get told they are not allowed to join in b/c they want to turn it into their own sick agenda and what happens, oh it’s discrimination, ha everything these days is discrimination, whats wrong with these people that they cant take NO for an answer, god forbid someone should actuallly tell them off and offend them, oh my, thats so horrific, OMG! its even worse than them spreading aids throughout the world and brainwashing children so that they are not even allowed a choice to disagree with them, oh wait no being offended is not worse, its actually something that we all must endure but then again, these sickos in the LGBT community are always the victims, ha as if nobody else in the world has ever had to endure something bad. They wont be so proud of their lifestyles when they are burning in Hell and i cant wait until God sorts them out.

  8. Sadly, homophobia is still a force in society as this comment shows. It is not worth answering because it is full of blind hatred but I am slightly surprised it’s allowed to stand and for that reason at least if it can’t be edited then at least a comment disagreeing with its hatred and prejudice should be submitted.

I’m all for debate but this is pure hatred and the comment should be deleted in my opinion.

  9. Jason, its not hatred to tell people the truth. It’s funny, anyone who does not agree with homosexuality is a hater and a homophobe, well homophobia really means to be afraid of gay people, im not afraid of them, im disgusted at their level of depravity. The truth is if you do not get right with God then your are going to face the consequences, its that simple and no matter what people say in their comments, its free speech. Gay people will never get world wide acceptance b/c you all lie about being born gay, God is not going to create a person to be gay, that defeats the purpose of him creating two sexes, it just doesnt make sense that he would go against that. You along with so many others have been fooled, you should get back on track before its too late. I would also like to add that simply disagreeing with homosexuality gets people branded a hater, so people might aswell hate homosexuals and if they do, they have many reasons for it and the bible or any religion doesnt need to be brought into it at all. When you are all forcing children of young ages to learn about LGBT issues, well thats not just depraved but its a predatory tactic and its wrong, its child abuse (mentally), so surly you can understand that. I would suggest that you got to venusmagazine.org or p4cm.com and see how you can change, i know God loves all of us but he will never accept homosexuality and if you do not repent, well very soon you will see for yourself when Jesus returns, afterall God is your judge, jury and executioner, you cannot escape him.
