This limited edition shirt is available from Philosophy Football.download

A unique commemorative football shirt to honour the Makana FA. This was the extraordinary football association was formed by prisoners on the notorious Robben Island. Imprisoned because of their opposition to Apartheid, playing football, organising their own league and cup competitions as the Makana FA, the game became a symbol and tool of the prisoners refusal to surrender their human dignity to the prison authorities.

download2 Yet this FA never had their own strip, except they do now. Specially designed, complete with Makana FA badge, by Philosophy Football, the shirts will be presented to former prisoners on 17 June when over 100 England fans will join them on Robben Island.

  1. Of course the Makana FA never had their own strip/uniform (not kit) -why would an FA have it’s own uniform- a representative team may well have their own uniform, but not an FA itself.

Who writes this sort of rubbish, someone with no knowledge of how football works presumably.

Presumably all profits from the shirts are actually going to prisoners, not to pay Mark P and his mates air-fares to South Africa to watch england get thrashed?

  2. Gawd you really can’t resist typing before checking out a single fact.

All the teams that competed in Makama FA competotions had their ow strips. The point is that FIFA has recognised Makana as an FA, the only FA accorded this status in the world which is not a national association. FIFA get a lot of things wrong, on this they got it write, honouring these incredible people who organised league and cup competions as a symbol of their resistance to apartheid.

Ad unlike you we think before we act, We contacted the ex-prisoners who were part of Makana Fa. Did they like the idea? Yes, they tthought it was a fantastic idea amd will be joining us in Cape Town.

Oh and last week 60 England fans came to a forum I helped organise to learn more about Makana FA.

Come back and contribute when you’ve disentangled your prejudices from your keyboard, or better still stick to selling papers to students, isn’t that what amounts to politics for you lot?

  5. No you pompous oaf you were wrong on every single point you clearly can’t read.

Makana have been recognised by FIFA as a national FA. They don;t have a kit. They have welcomed our creation of a kit for us. We will be awarding these to all surviving members for free on 17 June on Robben Island.

I suggest you stick to selling newspapers to students, thats clearly what your politics is suited to and not much else.

  6. mark you did the “selling newspapers to students” joke already on this thread; I could reply with something along the lines of “selling over priced shit to overweight middle class blokes” but I can’t summon the energy.

I don’t dispute any aspect of Makana being recognised as an FA. My question still stands though why would an FA (any FA) have a strip/uniform (not kit)?

I’m not sure if this is a freudian slip or what you meant “They have welcomed our creation of a kit for us. ” but at least it clarifies who the kit was for.

and my question -are all profits from the sales of the kit going to the prisoners/ex-prisoners/makhana fa is still a valid one. That you’ve taken up many hundreds of words not to reply is illuminating in itself.

I have no massive problem with how small business people like you make a living, but pretending that it advances socialism or that you’re doing it for someone elses benefit is surely worthy of challenge.

(I didn’t bother to reply to your suggestion of me being pompous- anyone who’s ever read a blog would laugh out loud at that charge coming from you.

  8. As you speak on behalf of a group that has wasted a good few person’s lifetimes pretending to advance socialism and ending up getting precisely nowhere I don’t feel I need to take your critique too seriously.

As for the profit motive. I suggest you consult the campaigns that have received substantial donations from us, significant publicity, the organisation of events, for free, oh and the surviving members of the Makana FA who will be receiving their shirts for free.

I won’t bother responding to your other points as you clearly can’t read. Oh, and the point about selling newspapers to students wasn’t a ‘joke’, it was a description of what your group does, and precious little else.

Thanks Liam. Blow the whistle PLEASE before we get to extra time.
